Supported by public subscription, the idea of the fountain was originated by committee member Jack Candy. The City of Southampton Society presented the Queen's Peace Fountain to the city 's Andrew's Park [East Park] . 

During 2008/9 it has been found that the stonework [Portland Stone] has become badly damaged probably by skateboarders.

CoSS is in discussion with Council officers to see firstly how we can prevent further damage and also what steps can be taken to repair the walls.
